This photograph of a wide load is a mystery? Is there anyone who can remember the incident when a wide load brought chaos into the heart of Sale?
It’s an unusual picture that is the showpiece of an exhibition of recently discovered old photographs entitled “A Walk Down School Road” and will be on public display as part of St Paul’s Church on Springfield Road in Sale. The church
is opening its doors as part of the National Heritage Open Day on September
Michael Riley, the Parish archivist, said: “We have no idea what it is, is it an important piece of engineering heading to Trafford Park?
“If anyone knows or has any suggestions I would love to hear from you on 0161-969-2795 or Email firstname.lastname@example.org
The Heritage Open Day takes place on September 9 from 10am to 5pm and a highlight of the day will be guided tours of the church tower.
For those who enjoy family history there will be a chance to view the Parish Registers.
And there will be Victorian afternoon teas, with home-made cakes and sandwiches, with harpist Alice Kirwan playing from 12noon to 2pm.
There will be performances from Sale Handbell ringers at 11am, Bollin Morris Men at 1.30pm, the Scout and Guide Brass Band at 2.30pm and St Paul’s Community Choir at 3.30pm.
